2024’s Dallas International Film Festival | Dallas Metro Moms

DIFF 2024 has released the full lineup of films for the 18 th Dallas
International Film Festival, April 25 – May 2, 2024. The Festival will feature screenings of more than
100 films, with  sessions and panels with filmmakers and actors, nightly DIFF Red Carpets, and
special events at Violet Crown Cinema in West Village Uptown.

This year’s Festival will open with the World Premiere of ESPN Films’ “30 FOR 30” documentary,
DUDE PERFECT: A VERY LONG SHOT, with Texas A&M University as the Opening Night
Sponsor. The documentary will open DIFF 2024 on Thursday, April 25, at The Majestic Theatre in
downtown Dallas. Additional Opening Weekend screenings will take place at The Texas Theatre.
The Festival will close with A24’s SING SING on May 2, which is based on the real-life program
Rehabilitation Through the Arts, and features a cast that includes formerly incarcerated actors and
alumni of the program.

“We always try to ensure the Festival features important and interesting stories, and this year’s
schedule abounds with the kind of films that remind us why we love watching movies,” said James
Faust, DIFF Artistic Director. “We’ve had the pleasure in creating this program of screening all of
the films, ‘meeting’ the filmmakers through both their submissions and our invitations to screen, and
feel we are bringing North Texas and our Festival fans our best. I could say this every year, but this
program might be my favorite ever.”

 

 

100 YARDS (Drama)
Directors: Xu Haofeng, Xu Junfeng
Upon the death of a well-respected martial arts master, two students become bitter rivals as they vie for
ownership of his academy. Their dispute is to be settled in combat, but its outcome stirs only malcontent
and, as the challenges between the two fighters multiply, customs become stretched and broken to the
scandalized shock of their wushu community.

ALL I EVER WANTED (Documentary) – WORLD PREMIERE
Director: Carlos P. Beltran
This deeply personal documentary unveils the untold story of Greivis Vasquez, former star of
the Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets, as he confronts a sudden, career-ending injury. The
film reveals the emotional, physical, and financial challenges that emerge in the aftermath of

AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER (Romance/Thriller) – DIFF STODGHILL CLASSIC MOVIE NIGHT
Director: Leo McCarey
A man and a woman have a romance while on a cruise from Europe to New York. Despite being
engaged to other people, both agree to reunite at the top of the Empire State Building in six months.
However, an unfortunate accident keeps her from the reunion, and he fears that she has married or

AN ARMY OF WOMEN (Documentary)
Director: Julie Lunde Lillesæter
When “Amy”, Marina, and Hanna’s rape cases are dismissed by the Austin police, all three women try
to find a way to rebuild their lives. They join forces with 12 other women in a groundbreaking lawsuit,
the first to argue that sexual assault isn’t prosecuted because it’s a crime that predominantly affects
women. The group is determined to hold police and prosecutors accountable for their inaction, but
their resilience is tested as they face setbacks from the system they hope to change. Ultimately, the
film offers a hopeful look into a movement that aims to change the future for women everywhere.

who saw Kennedy just before the assassination.

CLEMENTE (Documentary)

Executive produced by LeBron James and Oscar-nominee Richard Linklater, CLEMENTE is an
immersive documentary about the remarkable life and legacy of MLB icon Roberto Clemente.

COPA 71 (Documentary)

The greatest sporting story you’ve never heard of, COPA 71 tells the story of the 1971 Women’s
World Cup, which saw soccer teams from all over the world gather in Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium to

compete in front of more than 100,000 spectators. It was the last women’s World Cup until the official
FIFA event 20 years later. Dismissed by the male-dominated football associations around the world,
the event was written out of history, until now.

DANDELION (Romance/Drama)

The film follows a singer-songwriter in a downward spiral as she takes a last effort gig at a motorcycle
rally in South Dakota where she meets Casey, a guitarist who walked away from his dream long ago.

An ESPN Films’ “30 FOR 30” documentary, the film is another step in the journey of the Frisco-based
group known around the world for their videos of hard-to-believe trick shots. The five-member sports-
comedy troupe has a massive following on the Internet, television, and beyond, and the film
chronicles their hard-earned road to stardom, the tale of one of their biggest stunts yet, and the
question of where their path may go from here.

THE EXTORTION (Crime/Thriller)

A commercial airplane pilot is blackmailed by his country’s intelligence services to carry mysterious
suitcases on his trips to Spain.

sport of rodeo and Western culture.

LOSING GRACE, FINDING HOPE (Documentary)

The film shines a light on the growing suicide epidemic through the lens of the loved ones left behind
by focusing on the tragic death of Dallas teen Grace Loncar, whose story made headlines and led to
the creation of The Grace Loncar Foundation.

THE NATURE OF LOVE (Comedy/Romance)

Sophia is a philosophy professor in Montreal and has lived as a couple with Xavier for 10 years.
Sylvain is a carpenter in the Laurentians and must renovate their country house. When Sophia meets

PORCELAIN WAR (Documentary)

PRINT IT BLACK (Documentary) – WORLD PREMIERE

PRINT IT BLACK showcases the journalists of the Uvalde Leader-News and how they responded to
the shooting at Robb Elementary. It closely follows the story of crime reporter Kimberly Mata Rubio
and her husband, Felix, who tragically lost their daughter, Lexi, in the massacre. The film tells the
story of the day of the shooting, in part, through the eyes of Pete Luna – the sole photojournalist on
the scene, sharing an intimate perspective through previously unseen photos captured during the 77-
minute delay at Robb Elementary.

QUEEN OF MY DREAMS (Comedy/Romance)

Azra is worlds apart from her conservative Muslim mother. When her father suddenly dies on a trip
home to Pakistan, Azra finds herself on a Bollywood-inspired journey through memories, both real

A young widower is deported as his daughter is scheduled for a heart transplant, which will lead him
to orchestrate the boldest border crossing plan in history.

WITHOUT ARROWS (Documentary)
Director: Jonathan Olshefski
Filmed over the course of 13 years, WITHOUT ARROWS chronicles the vibrance and struggle of a
Lakȟóta family. Delwin Fiddler, Jr., a champion grass dancer from the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe,
left his reservation as a young man to escape a trauma that splintered his family, and built a new life
in Philadelphia. A decade later, he abandons it all and returns home to fulfill his mother’s ambition
and carry on the legacy of their thiyóšpaye (extended family).

Grand Jury Prizes for DIFF 2024 will be awarded for Best Texas Short Film, Best Texas Feature,
Best Documentary Short Film, Best Documentary Feature, Best International Feature, Best
International Short Film, Best Narrative Feature, Best Animated Short Film, and Best Student Film
within the Shorts Competition. Additionally, Audience Awards will be given for Best Documentary
Feature, Best Narrative Feature, and Best Short Film. There will also be a Dallas County Historical
Commission Prize for Best Historical Film and the “ShotDeck presents the Grand Jury Prize for Best
Short Film”.

Other film categories and tracks will include: Music, Sports, World Films, Latino Films, Canadian
Films, Family Films, Indigenous Films, LGBTQIA+, Persons with Disabilities,
Environment/Sustainability, and Midnight Films, among others.

DIFF has also introduced a Screenwriting Competition in partnership with Event Horizon Films. The

The Dallas International Film Festival was cited by Travel + Leisure Asia in naming April among “The
Best Times to Visit Dallas for Sporting Events and Festivals”. The festival was also cited by

in 2024.

Passes for the Dallas International Film Festival are on sale at
